Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
(James 1:7)

As every man hath received the gift, [even so] minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
(1 Peter 4:10)

I would like to start by saying that anything good, anything useful, anything that sounds even halfway intelligent on this blog is thanks to God, not to me.  TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

Blog Goals

This blog has four primary goals…

First and foremost, is that people will find their way to this blog, read, watch or hear the Gospel and receive the salvation offered through Jesus Christ. If you are not sure you are saved or if you know you are not a Christian; please READ THIS or watch the “Are You A Good Person” video in the upper right of this page.

Second is to be an encouragement to other Christians to witness and share their faith (the “Evange” in EvangeGeek).  This will be with a focus on those who have busy lives (family, full time job, etc…), do not live in big cities and who are not full time ministers or evangelists.  In other words, everyday Christians.  At the end of this page, I will share my excuses for not witnessing.  I encourage you to take a look at your excuses, write them down, and lift them up to God in prayer.  Really consider if they are valid in the light of the fact that we are commanded to share the Gospel.  If you are truly a Christian, you know that the Bible is true and that anyone who does not repent and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will spend an eternity in Hell separated from God due to their sin.  When you know that that is their fate, is there really any valid excuse for not witnessing?  My hope and prayer is that this blog will show you that it is possible to witness and share the Gospel no matter how “busy” you are.

The third goal of this blog is to share the gifts that God has given me.  I am often called a “geek” by those who know me (the “Geek” in EvangeGeek).  The Merriam Webster dictionary defines a geek as “an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity” (definition 3 [I am not def. 1 and pray that I am not def. 2]).  God has blessed me with a knowledge of computers, electronics and technology in general, and I want to share that gift with other Christians.  I have noticed a lack of resources for Christians to learn about technology and useful products in a way that focuses on their use in Christian, Church and family life.  Most of the secular resources out there contain cuss words and blasphemy; I want to provide a resource for Christians that is safe, blasphemy free, and Christ honoring.

The fourth and final goal is to share general experiences that I think might be helpful in day to day Christian living.  This may be a verse or article I read, or something I did with the wife or kids etc…

So in short: Evangelism, Technology and the Christian Life.

My Excuses For Not Witnessing

I have had many excuses for not passing out tracts and witnessing more often.   I have listed those excuses below.  My hope is that by listing these excuses and having the blog to hold me accountable, I will witness and share my faith more often!  Additionally, I hope that it will show people in similar situations that it is still possible to witness on a regular basis.

My excuses

  • I am married with 4 kids (1, 2, 5 and 7), and I have a full time job.  That doesn’t leave much time for evangelism.
    • That is excuse number 1.  Thinking about it just shows me that while it is essentially true, it means that I will need to witness whenever I get the chance instead of just waiting for set witnessing trips or outings with my church.
  • I don’t have the best memory and may not know what to say.
    • The Bible tells us to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Ti 2:15).  So I studied and wrote out witnessing notes to remind myself of good verses to use.  I will list those resources on the Tracting Tips page as well as information on how to create your own notes.
    • I also need to keep in mind that it is God and His law that does the converting, not me or how eloquent (or not) I am! (Psa 19:7)
  • I am hard of hearing (I wear hearing aids).  That makes it hard to talk to people, especially if I am not wearing them.  When I am wearing my hearing aids, if there is a lot of noise or wind, it is still very hard for me to hear and carry on a conversation.
    • This is probably my biggest excuse.   But the fact is that I don’t hear very well, and I can’t really change that.  That doesn’t excuse me from witnessing!   I will just have to pray that God will give me witnessing opportunities where I can hear and communicate well.
  • I live in a small town (pop. 1649) in the Midwest so I also have to deal with snow and bad weather.  The larger towns around me are all under 180,000 people.  That makes it harder to find witnessing opportunities with large groups of people.
    • Once again, this excuse just shows me I need to witness whenever I get the chance.
    • There is also a college in the town I work in.  I could go there at lunch to witness.  Basically, I will need to plan soul winning activities and watch for local events that might gather a crowd.

So there are my excuses, what are yours?   I have come to realize, that while those may seem like valid excuses, they are in no way valid when I remember that souls are at stake!  Jesus told all Christians to spread the Gospel (Mat 28:19-20).  Am I really going to stand before God after I die and explain to Him why I didn’t witness more by saying, “well…  I didn’t really have time and it was hard to remember what to say and oh yea… I can’t hear to well?”

No!  When I stand before God, I want to hear “Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant” (Mat 25:21)!  As Christians, we have the “words of eternal life” (Jhn 6:68).  I want to share those words and God’s amazing gift with as many people as possible!

I hope this site is an encouragement to you and that you will witness whenever the opportunity arises.
